Throughout 2023 Arts in McNairy will be conducting a focused cultural asset inventory. Don't let the jargon confuse you! We are very simply taking the time to sit down with friends, neighbors, and tradition bearers to ask questions about the creative pursuits and products we value, and the artistic traditions we share as a community.
Our survey team consists of Arts in McNairy's Traditional Arts and Diversity Committee Chairs and three interns who will focus their efforts on gathering information in several key areas including historic music and arts events and people; African American traditions; Native American lore; and Hispanic or recent immigrant cultures.
Community participants are asked to complete short questionnaires or sit for interviews to share their family histories, photos, artifacts or other documentation that help our community gain a deeper understanding of the historic and contemporary traditions the shape the people McNairy County. Results of the survey will be compiled and shared with the community in a number of ways as the project evolves.
