Music The Music Committee is perhaps best known for the popular AiM Summer Concerts Series conducted each year at the beautiful Edward Simpson Performance Stage (“The Ed”) in the Selmer City Park. Ancient hardwoods shelter the outdoor stage at the Ed making a naturally shaded amphitheatre perfect for enjoying an evening of music under the stars. Locals love to bring their lawn chairs and picnic baskets or sit in the gazebo and enjoy the entertainment while the kids play on the adjacent playground. Crooked Creek winds it’s way around the park with pleasant views to compliment the equally pleasing sounds provided by a variety of musical acts. The series which runs each year between June and August showcases the best local talent as well as top quality professional entertainers from around the country. An eclectic mix of artists have graced the Selmer stage over the years. Whatever your taste in music, the AiM Summer Concert Series is bound to have something for you. Blues, Bluegrass, Gospel, Classical, Jazz, Choral Music, Country, Celtic, Rock, World Music, Contemporary Christian and some genres yet to be named have all been showcased at one time or another! In addition to the concert series, Arts in McNairy’s Music Committee oversees a community chorus and band program, offering local musicians and vocalists the opportunity to be participants rather than just spectators. A chorus and hand bell choir performs a well attended annual Christmas concert involving as many as 75-100 area students and adults. The community band also plans several concerts throughout the season and assists the performing arts committee by providing a stage band for their summer musicals.
